Bordeaux, 24th June 2020 - The French start-up, Dronisos, has beaten the world record for the largest number of drones flying indoors: it flew 200 drones simultaneously for the celebration of San Giovanni, a popular annual festival organised by the towns of Turin, Genoa and Florence.
A world record to celebrate the end of lockdown.
The Italian towns of Turin, Genoa and Florence are innovating this year as they celebrate San Giovanni via video broadcast with no public gathering. The town of Turin opted to create a drone display, combining art and robotics, operated by the French company Dronisos.
The display, directed by Turin artist Silvia Gribaudi and London based choreographer Antoine Marc, was broadcast on the Italian public TV station, la Rai, and also on the event website on Wednesday 24th June (http://www.sangiovannix3.it/). The display’s creation was supervised by the dance festival Torinodanza, the Stabile Theatre and the National Theatre of Turin.

“This year we wanted to take innovation to its limits with this indoor drone display, creating a new kind of interaction between dancers and robots. The collaboration between the Italian team and Dronisos was truly enriching and we are proud to share our work with the public on 24th June.” Says Marco Pironti, Turin’s City’s advisor on innovation and the smart city.
“This display was rehearsed in secret on the Aerocampus site near Bordeaux, it gave us a great opportunity to achieve a world record by flying 200 drones simultaneously. We are particularly proud of this performance as it was created during several months of lockdown. This shows just how dynamic our team is and how they were able to make the most of this difficult time.” Said Laurant Perchais, CEO of Dronisos.
Last September, Parisians were able to admire the display of two hundred drones operated from Saint Cloud park for the launch of the new Peugeot 208. The Bordeaux based company also created a drone display for Lancôme in front of the Eiffel Tower. Large amusements parks have also forayed into drone displays and they make up a large part of Dronisos’ business customers.
In just under four years, Dronisos has contributed to creating a new artistic media across the four corners of the world, making the sky a place for expression for both artists and brands.
A new display offer aimed at French local authorities
Just like Turin, Dronisos would like French local authorities to benefit from a catalogue of displays to celebrate summer, the end of lockdown or even say thank you to their carers.
